I am an unusual person. By nearly every definition, today’s society/pop culture considers me irredeemably weird. I simply do not fit into any of their molds. I chuckle every time I think about that. As some examples consider the following.
I have been happily married to the same lovely young women for the last 32 years. I have never had an affair. I have worked for the same employer for 32 years. I held my part time tax job for 17 years. At work I show up on time and do more than expected of me. When I need to be somewhere I plan well enough that I do not need to race like some maniac loser to get to where I am going on time. When my gas guzzling Durango needed major repairs I paid the $1250 from my savings account. When I replace my car I buy well maintained used cars and pay them off as quickly as possible allowing me to sometimes go years without a car payment, not to mention the money I save on car insurance. When my daughter brought her new boyfriend over to meet me I took one look at the six pounds of metal protruding from his face, the six hundred tattoos, the pants desperately clinging to his hips and the gang colors he was wearing and told him to get the (insert colorful expletive here) out of my house. I gave up watching the sewer, aka network TV, including all the pay services, years ago and have never regretted it. I consciously refuse to subject myself to “popular” culture including music, music videos, most anything that comes out of hollywood today and 99% of anything at the supermarket checkout stand. I shop locally every chance I get. I actually read real books. I have never had, nor will I have, a twitter account. I only spend about two hours a week on facebook, mostly to play a couple of games I like. I have no body piercings or tattoos (which really makes me weird as I was the only enlisted man on my ship with no tattoos). I am religiously observant. I do not depend on anyone for anything I can do myself. Even worse, I expect others to be as responsible as I am.
In today’s culture all these traits mark me as a white privileged, right wing, intolerant, homophobic racist. They are mostly wrong of course. I say mostly because I am intolerant of many things, for example racism or political correctness or religious intolerance or, as in the case of black lives matter or antifa, outright hate. As one of my heroes once said I also, “Don’t much care for quitters.”
As I look out at the world my grand kids are taking their first tentative steps into I fear for them greatly. I place the source of that fear squarely on the shoulders of “tolerance.” That will seem an odd thing to say to many who read this. Never the less it is so and I’ll tell you why.
We tolerate the hatred spewed by black lives matter to make up for something no one alive was responsible for and no one alive participated in.
We tolerate the near mindless violence of antifa instead of arresting them and locking them away to show that violence for the sake of violence should never be tolerated.
We tolerate every childish temper tantrum thrown by immature college students instead of demonstrating that rules are meant to be followed and that changing the rules requires a process to be followed and that everyone’s rights to be considered.
We tolerate the abuse of language itself by calling illegal aliens undocumented migrants, welfare dependency compassion, abortion women’s health and referring to illegal aliens “constitutional” rights. For all you public school graduates the rights enumerated in the Constitution apply only to U.S. citizens and you don’t get citizenship simply because you managed to get cross the border.
We tolerate the abuse of the individual by major corporations, Google and Firefox as examples, as well as massive federal, state and local government overreach in the name of political correctness.
We tolerate a death worshiping cult that still practices slavery, child abuse, rape, animal abuse, murder and genocide in the name of tolerance. Yes I am referring to islam and I know these things because I study current events in moslem controlled countries and have read the only two books moslems read, the koran and the hadith. You should read them as well. Even more sad is that while we make constant excuses for an evil ideology posing as a religion we allow constant attacks on Christianity by anyone whose feelings are hurt.
We tolerate the massive and total failure of the public education system even as we throw more and more money into that tragically flawed system. My grandchildren were not taught American history to any level of proficiency but can readily name all “52 genders.” Given the product turned out I would have to say that many teachers and administrators are vastly overpaid.
We tolerate constant abuse by the homersexual and so called “transgender” gaystapo. They seek not to engender compassion but the complete and utter destruction of anyone that does not fully endorse their lifestyle of risky behaviors. Personally I don’t care if you want to place an excrement covered penis in your mouth but I am not going to let you define such an act as an act of love, let alone normal. I don’t care if some guy wants to wear a dress and makeup but you have no right to be in my granddaughters bathroom or locker room. I don’t care if you were feeling like a girl when I called you sir, you don’t get to sue or harass me because I “misgendered” you. Nor do any of these behaviors qualify you for special rights. The fact that a handful of gay activists took over the American Psychiatric Association and voted to eliminate homersexuality from the diagnostic manual does not mean these behaviors are in fact normal.
We tolerate the massive invasion of our country by anyone who can get here, including vile gang members who have “relatives” here. We tolerate billions of our hard earned tax dollars given to illegal aliens that could be better spent on our veterans, or our homeless, or our mentally ill or even our infrastructure.
We tolerate the erasure of history by hate mongers.
We tolerate judicial tyranny.
We tolerate lying career extortionists, uhm, I mean politicians.
We tolerate a proven beyond a doubt fake media.
I could go on but I think you are beginning to see my point. Tolerance can be a beautiful thing but tolerance can also be a powerful weapon. Americans are nearing the point where we are about to “tolerate” ourselves out of the rights we asserted in the formation of our country. We are nearly at the point where we will “tolerate” the world out of the greatest, most productive, most inventive and most compassionate country in human history. Abraham Lincoln is supposed to have said that in the course of history, “we will be remembered in spite of ourselves.” If we are not careful I think we will be remembered as the generation that fully embraced the most avoidable tragedy in human history.
