The Ugliness of Their Goodness

No one screams about their tolerance, goodness and basic decency louder, longer or with more ferocity than a committed liberal/democrat/progressive. No one cares more than they do about the important issues of the day. Whether its gun control or tolerance, they simply know better than you do in every account. Having placed themselves on the pedestal of humanistic Demi Godhood it is simply not allowed, or even comprehensible, why us knuckle dragging neanderthals in flyover country should question the results of their policies.
Liberal/democrats/progressives or, as I know them, the party of hate, know no bounds when it comes to signaling their virtue over the likes of regular working Americans. If that regular working American happens to be a veteran, well, he is screwed. Allow me to introduce you to Simeon D. Mokhiber.

(Full disclosure time. As a licensed armed security officer of many years I have frequently come into contact with law enforcement. As a general rule LE does not like security. The most common reaction I get is polite indifference. Many times though it much closer to intolerance. That being said, I have met the rare officer who understands and accepts security as a valuable addition to public safety. In general I harbor no animosity to LE, even the one who pulled his gun on me when I was pulled over for having a headlight out. I was in uniform and informed the officer that I had just gotten off work and still had my sidearm on my duty belt. Of course I did not get the fix it ticket everyone else gets I had to pay dearly. Still, I try to give LE the benefit of the doubt but this case makes me wonder. That being said cops who cross the line get no sympathy from me at all.)

Mr. Mokhiber is a nine year Army veteran. He was part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, was a licensed armed security guard in the state of New York and had worked as an armed private security contractor in Iraq and Afghanistan. Did I mention he had no criminal record? Well now, courtesy of Gov. Andrew Cuomo, democrat liberal hate monger NY, this American hero is now a potential three time felon. So what exactly did this father of a disabled eight year old daughter do? Read on dear reader.

Back in April 2016 Mr. Mokhiber was pulled over for speeding. Despite being sober the police required him to perform field sobriety tests. Nothing to see here, yet. Apparently the cops took issue with Mr. Mokhiber’s request that the officers activate their body cameras. They proceeded to arrest him and without his permission or a warrant search his vehicle.

Let us take a pause here to examine what has happened so far. Speeding is hardly a federal offense and we have already established that Mr. Mokhiber had no criminal record. The fact is, by the time the cops began the sobriety tests they would have known Mr. Mokhiber had no criminal record and was, at worst, a low level threat. So why the arrest? Could it be the cops did not appreciate a “civilian” asking for his rights to be honored? Did the overwhelmingly liberal nature of the area play a role? Given that this happened in New York I fear that is highly probable. So at this point we have a highly suspect arrest, but lets continue.

The highly questionable search of Mr. Mokhibers’s vehicle produced a locked container. The container, opened without a warrant or Mr. Mokhiber’s permission, revealed three 17-round Glock handgun magazines. All three magazines were empty and there was no gun on Mr. Mokhiber or in his vehicle. As an aside Mr. Mokhiber is the owner of a licensed and registered handgun. So again, why the arrest?

Personally, I suspect it was a case of “badgeittude” getting out of control. Still, one cannot absolve the system that created the conditions that led to this travesty of justice. New York recently passed a law that makes possessing an “ammunition feeding device” capable of holding more than 10 rounds a felony. The penalty is a maximum of seven years in prison. Mr. Mokhiber, an Army veteran with no criminal record now faces up to 21 years in prison.

Doubtlessly, the gun control lunatics will celebrate this outrage as an outstanding achievement by law enforcement in their continuing efforts to “protect” us from marauding criminal elements. I have no doubt the politically correct police chief will much ballyhoo his officers courage under trying circumstances. You know, from a man who never posed a threat in the first place. Perhaps a presidential medal of honor is in order? Oh wait, the Kenyan moslem in chief isn’t in charge any more. Guess the hater in chief Cuomo will have to come up with something appropriate. May I suggest a couple of boxes of tissues? One for their tears of joy and one for our tears of sorrow. As for the officers who arrested Mr. Mokhiber and all those who participated in his prosecution the ugliness of your goodness is showing.

Unsatisfied with simply telling us what we can or cannot have liberals also perpetuate some deadly myths in the name of “tolerance”. We must, they say, be tolerant of the LGBTQXYZRTW crowd. Isn’t it obvious they bleat, staring blankly as they utter their “truth”, that there are at least 52 genders? What, they ask, is wrong with teaching two year olds that gender is a fluid concept? Or that Heather can have two mommies? Honestly, they say, given that NAMBLA only advocates tolerant loving relationships between men and young boys what could possibly be wrong with that? After all love trumps hate! From simple minds…..

Allow me to inject some reason into the “argument.”

In 2016 the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention published a study titled “Sexual Identity, Sex of Sexual Contacts, and Health Related Behaviors Among Students in Grades 9-12”. The results are tragic, sadly predictable and entirely unreported. I will only summarize its findings here.

The study compared two groups: students engaging in homersexual activity vs. students with no sexual contact.

Students engaging in homersexual activity were:

  • Eight times more likely to smoke
  • 47 times more likely to smoke frequently (20 or more cigarettes in the month prior to the survey)
  • Nearly three times as likely to have tried alcohol prior to age 13
  • Three and a half times as likely to be currently using alcohol
  • More than 11 times as likely to binge drink (10 or more drinks in a row)
  • Nearly six times as likely to be currently using marijuana
  • More than 16 times as likely ever to have used hallucinogenic drugs
  • More than 18 times as likely ever to have used cocaine
  • 30 times as likely ever to have used heroin
  • 23 times as likely ever to have used methamphetamines

None of this should come as a surprise to the average observer, you know, someone who doesn’t think in punchlines. (An average observer meaning someone who doesn’t get his/her information from the corrupt mainstream media, public school, ivy league colleges, left wing websites or late night so called comedy shows.) These results also tend to produce the ideal liberal/progressive/democratic voter, ie to drugged up, intellectually ignorant and to focused on his/her/its gender/genitals to think straight.

The CDC in 2014 also reported that homersexual men were much more likely to contract nearly every STD known. For any public school graduates reading this that means diseases like syphilis, chlamydia and gonorrhea. In 2014 homersexual behavior accounted for 75% of all cases of syphilis in the US. The CDC also notes that while homersexuals only make up approximately 2 percent of the population they make up 55 percent of all people living in the US with HIV. In fact, in 2014, homersexual men made up over two thirds of all new HIV case in the US.

In his groundbreaking book Homosexuality and the Politics of Truth, Dr. Jeffrey Satinover notes that homersexuality often and far to frequently leads to:

  • A 25- to 30-year decrease in life expectancy
  • Chronic, potentially fatal, liver disease – infectious hepatitis, which increases the risk of liver cancer
  • Inevitably fatal immune disease including associated cancers
  • Frequently fatal rectal cancer
  • Multiple bowel and other infectious diseases
  • A much higher than usual incidence of suicide

In the face of such terrifying and continually mounting evidence liberals demand that these behaviors not only be accepted, glorified even, but be taught as early as preschool. Anyone who points out the obvious, that homersexuality is not normal and is in fact dangerous, must be destroyed. They must be destroyed personally, professionally and financially. Such is the liberal/progressive/democrat definition of tolerance.

These social justice warriors blindly believe that young children must be given the opportunity to experience gonorrhea up close and personal, must experience the joys of drug addiction and must have as many sexual partners as possible. This is beyond tragic because the “leaders” of these social justice warriors know everything I have just told you. Knowing the devastation that follows these “accepted” behaviors makes these “leaders” evil in its purest form.

Truly, the ugliness of their goodness is showing.

Facebook, Guns and The Liberal Mindset

I only recently got my computer back. Seems my eight year old hard drive finally gave up the ghost. I took the opportunity to go on my Facebook page. Yes, I stayed off Facebook the whole three weeks I was computerless, you should try it. Anyway one of the first posts I see was in response to the Florida shooting. One of the people on my “friends” list posted a cartoon showing Wayne La Perrier and a brutish looking man labeled “Guns Inc” dragging a massive bag of profits, standing amid a sea of bloody bodies. The cartoonist has a smiling Wayne saying “Fortunately guns don’t kill people.” The cartoon, misleading as it was, generated an interesting exchange on my wall.

RJ is the individual on my “friends” list. I knew him casually through our employer. After hearing him wax semi eloquently on the glories and accomplishments of Sir Hillary Clinton I realized discretion was the better part of valor and basically avoided him. I never try to start an argument with liberals but I will not shy away either.

The exchange serves as a classic example of how liberals operate. I have recorded the entire thread/ conversation, word for word below. I will only use the participants initials to accord them anonymity. My comments are italicized.

Commenting on the cartoon;

M B: Be sure to list all the abortions too R J. All the drunk drivers that kill daily. All the drug companies. I could go on and on.

I don’t know MB but I know RJ and I don’t doubt he supports abortion on demand. I have to admit I’m not sure how drunk drivers or drug companies fit into the gun control debate. I wish he had gone on just long enough to make the connection for me.

R J: I’m not posting this pic to start up any mean spirited dialogue–keep your hate to yourselves.

Really? Linking the NRA to mass murder isn’t mean spirited? The direct implication that gun manufacturers use murder to profit isn’t mean spirited? What then was your purpose for posting this cartoon, a demonstration of compassion? Notice the knee jerk reflex to classify perceived disagreement as hate.

M B: R J what do you call this picture? It’s pure hate toward gun owners. Your such a hipocrit.

Unless you are a rabid gun control fanatic MB’s description of the cartoon is spot on.

RJ: I’m a gun owner myself asshole–now leave me alone and stay the fuck off MY FACEBOOK page

Now doesn’t this just make everyone feel better? RJ owns a gun and knows some four letter words. I guess RJ means he is the right “type” of gun owner? He reflexively turns to the liberal lexicon, ie profanity, to make his point. Let’s not forget, it’s his Facebook page, how dare you dissent.

Not to be out done in demonstrating his liberal bona fides DT joins the fray.

DT: MB: No abortion has ever killed a room full of people.

Lets admit it, this is a brilliant misdirection. DT has clearly memorized his talking points. I can almost imagine DT biting his lower lip while “tearing up” for the camera. I suppose he has a technical point, you couldn’t fit tens of millions of dead babies even in Michael Moores pantry. I suppose in DT’s world killing babies is fine as long as a gun isn’t used.

Unaware of RJ’s intellectual superiority, another commentator dares to chime in.

GHZ: We have reached the point in this country where stats and body counts are the things that make headlines, not the tragedy itself, like each event is to challenge or outdo the last one, ie: Worst in American history, the most children killed in America, the worst theater shooting in America, etc, etc. Since when do we gloat over our history of violence in this country like we are giving out Oscars for Best Picture? We need to grow up, get pissed off, and stop this carnage from happening, before it becomes just a byline.

Like it or not, GHZ has a point, from the media’s perspective. A long time maxim in the media is, “If it bleeds it leads.” Gun deaths are reported by the “mainstream media” in horse race fashion and have been since they jumped on the gun control bandwagon en mass. GHZ is correct, we need to find a way to stop this kind of violence but I suspect we would disagree on the methods to do so.

RJ: Then let it stop with u GHZ–your hate speech today has been horrific.

Hate speech? Horrific? Seriously? It seems GHZ has hit a nerve here. Having sold some articles to one of the supermarket tabloids, RJ fancies himself a member of that precious media. He simply cannot deal with the facts here. Again, notice the reflexive invocation of “hate speech.” Exactly what was hateful or horrific in GHZ’s post?

GHZ: The media loves the sensationalism. It sells advertising space, and newspapers. It is a sick morbid obsession.

Sadly, GHZ has a point here too. Like Piers Morgan standing on the bodies of the Sandy Hook victims or the perky Katie Curic deceptively editing her gun control “documentary”, the media will stoop to any low to get their agenda across. It is a fact proven by its perpetrators almost daily.

RJ: Well then that should give u something to read while you’re incarcerated! Now, as I told u earlier, leave me alone.

Well alrighty then. A fine example of liberal tolerance here RJ. I mean, how dare these peasants, having been labeled as haters by the all knowing you, continue to address his highness. Apparently it is now criminal to disagree with Sir RJ. Oh, and you peasants need to stop it with the reality stuff, it messes up RJ’s carefully constructed fantasy world. Besides, I’m certain the Enquirer is desperately trying to get him to finish his article on how black lesbian platypus are being discriminated against by local Christian zoo keepers.

Yes I am picking on RJ. Remember, I know him. For the millions of folks like RJ, this is what passes as intelligent debate on gun control or any other subject. How sad is that?

The Value Of A Question

At one of the three jobs I work (to support my family and at least two welfare families) I have an associate who vehemently claims to be a libertarian yet, if you listen to him talk, he is as liberal as the day is long. As I make no secret of my avowed conservatism he misses no opportunity to play his version of “gotcha” on me. His preferred method to make me admit how mean I am, until just recently, was the carefully crafted, factually inaccurate or emotionally based question. It has become a good natured way (we both served in the Navy) to keep my rhetorical skills sharp while educating a decent sort who has allowed himself to be mislead by his desire not to be seen as an evil conservative.

Questions are an invaluable way to make an instant, undeniable point. Liberals learned this a long time ago with the “When did you stop beating your wife” type questions. Despite their misuse of the tactic (liberals use it as a propaganda technique), it is a sound one and conservatives should use it at every opportunity. A well-placed question often accomplishes two goals. One, it silences the liberal for a moment or two (until the talking points kick in) and second (and more valuable) it causes the less rabidly oriented to think on some level.

A perfect example came about during a conversation on the so-called Palestinians and Israel’s “occupation” of their “historic” homeland. I simply had to ask the following question. If the arabs were there first, why is the al aqsa mosque built on top of the Temple Mount instead of the other way around? The question is factually accurate and that facts very existence destroys the narrative that Israel is occupying anything.

When my associate tried to engage me on the conservative “war on women” farce I did what I always do, let him go on and on until he ran out of steam. As I already know he is a huge supporter of importing thousands of Syrian fighting age male “refugees” who cannot be properly vetted, I asked him a simple question. Why is it okay to import thousands of alleged Syrians who believe it is perfectly acceptable to kill a women who has been raped unless she had four male witnesses?

During a recent discussion (I use the term discussion lightly) on the budget I got an earful about how broke the government was how critical it was for taxes on the rich to be raised. Of course I had a question. How is it the government is so broke seniors on Social Security cannot get a moderate cost of living raise but there is enough money to give thousands of so called “refugees” food stamps, housing, college and medical care?

Sometimes the question can be a humorous one. During a discussion about the “normalcy” of homosexuality I of course had a question. If lesbians aren’t attracted to men why are they attracted to women who look like men?

During a discussion on tolerating islam I naturally had a question. Why is it ok for liberals to hate Christians for believing marriage is between a man and a women (a biblical tenet) while remaining silent on the moslems religious right to kill gays (a koranic tenent)?

During a black lives matter conversation I simply had to ask, since, according to the so called Justice Department cops shoot and kill more whites every year than blacks, has there been a failure in the racist part of law enforcement training?

During a conversation on how fast food workers deserve a $15 an hour wage, you guessed it, I had to ask, why would you consider “you want fries with that” a career option? This conversation actually morphed into a reasonably intelligent debate. At the end of the day though my associate would not answer my final question, if $15 an hour is good for fast food workers why is it not good for every worker? In fact, why not really show your compassion and make the minim wage $50 or even $75 an hour. Surely that’s a livable wage for everyone. He didn’t want to admit it to me but I already knew. He had done the math and realized that his demands were financially unsound.

Sometimes you simply have to illustrate absurdity with absurdity. While discussing so-called hate crimes laws I had to ask a few questions. Why is it more wrong for a white man to rob a black man than the other way around? If a gay man and a black man are robbed by a white heterosexual male, who is the more aggrieved victim? The gay or the black? If they are robbed by a gay Native American is there any victim?

In a black lives matter conversation gun control came up. I had to point out that the same people who claim it is “open season” on young black men by the police are the ones publicly insisting that police are the only people who should be trusted to have guns. They need to answer this question. Isn’t that a racist position?

Sometimes, if a question is good enough, you can tackle two sacred cows at once. Example, if global warming causes terrorism then why aren’t Christians and Jews strapping on suicide vests and themselves blowing up in crowded places? That question ended our conversation right then and there.

Questions like these are an opportunity to educate. When used against a thoroughly indoctrinated liberal these kind of questions generally produce one of two results. Stunned silence, which can be awesome to watch or a total degeneration into blathering name-calling. On some occasions that one question can educate. Therein lies the point of a well crafted, well-asked question. It can affect a certain amount of change.

Mediocre Minds

I have quite a few heroes that I look up to. For me these people provide invaluable guidance, wisdom and perspective. To name a few Ronald “Dutch” Reagan, Marget “The Iron Lady” Thatcher, Winston Churchill, George “Blood and Guts” Patton, Nicola Tesla, Thomas Sowell, Walter E. Williams and at least a dozen others.

These are people who knew what was right and never allowed themselves to be swayed by what “felt” good or was popular at the time. These are people who pursued what was right no matter the cost to themselves or their “image.” These hardy souls often paid a hefty price for choosing wisely and doing the right thing over the popular or convenient thing.

I wonder sometimes if these were the kinds of people one of my budding hero’s ( I haven’t officially added him but he is on my short list ) Albert Einstein, was talking about when he said, “Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds.”

This is amply demonstrated today. Everywhere one looks today, the mediocre minds are running the place. In the media, schools and colleges, large corporations, entertainment industry and especially in the government the mediocre minds cling desperately to both their power and their ideals of progressive liberalism and political correctness. If you don’t believe me, try straying from the official party line in any of these “special interest groups” and see what happens to you. I have and I can tell you it isn’t pleasant.

Members of the TEA Party are called racist for simply asking the government to do what most of us do on a daily basis, don’t spend more than you earn. And how dare those “teabaggers” think they should keep more of what they earn. After all, certain people are “entitled” to the possessions of others. You know, the welfare part of the constitution.

Parents of school shooting victims (speaking from a place of pain I know but still choosing to be wrong ) thinking that further burdening law abiding gun owners will prevent criminals from perpetrating evil. This despite the fact their children were murdered in “gun free zones.” I mean really, if a law was going to work then….hello, is this thing on?

Homosexuals believing their deviant lifestyle should be a civil right. I don’t know about you but I am tired of being lectured on tolerance and civility by people who believe that if a boy hasn’t had sex with a man by age eight (NAMBLA) he is “ruined.” Or, when a young male student reports having sex with a male teacher the counselor ( little Barry’s Safe School Czar nominee ), instead of reporting the incident as required by law, advises the student to be sure and use a condom next time. These are the same people who believe shoving their arms up someone’s rectum is a normal behavior. It’s not normal, it has never been normal and if you think it is, you’re not normal. And for the record I don’t think there is anything wrong with normal.

Teachers who think teaching children the fiction of man made global warming, politically correct speech codes and “white privilege” is more important than reading, writing, arithmetic or critical thinking skills. Then there is their near religious devotion to a demonstrably false narrative that “more money” equals better education. And don’t get me started on the garbage they call history now days. The term “revisionist history” is too polite for that trash. The simple fact is that most college graduates today could not pass the 1860 6th grade graduation test. In my opinion that, along with their slavish devotion to environmental make believe, makes many educators vastly overpaid given the product they turn out.

Religion of peace apologists. Any “faith” that teaches that ones highest religious duty is experience “martyrdom”, that a women who has been raped must be killed for having unlawful sex, that one must convert or kill all non believers, provides husbands with instructions on how to beat their wives or demands that apostates must be killed, is no faith. It’s called a cult and in this case it is a cult that relishes abuse, death and destruction. And no, I am not labeling Islam, I am accurately describing it. Deal with it.

Amnesty proponents. If you really believe that those who broke the law to get here and stay here deserve free housing, education, healthcare etc, then break out YOUR wallet to pay for it. I am already working two jobs to keep skippy on his “entitled” welfare benefits. And no, this attitude does not make me a racist. It makes me one of those silly people who think I should be able to keep what is mine. Get over it.

Finally, due to time constraints, let me mention the angry atheists. I have never understood the deep-seated hatred they have toward God fearing people. What exactly is it about the Ten Commandments that scares them so? And why do they have to hide behind so much hate? And yet no atheist I know of pursues Muslims they way they do Christians. Why is that? And for the record there is no founding document that proclaims a separation of church and state, only a prohibition of establishing a state religion. If the mediocre minds would make the effort to actually read our founding documents, well lets be honest, they wouldn’t like what they read. I can hear them asking, “But, isn’t it unconstitutional to have God in the Constitution?”

So, now, according to the media, most popular culture icons (I am proud to admit I don’t think I know who any of them are), most college graduates as well as nearly all the leaders in high government positions, I am a religious, gun owning, racist anti immigration teabagger.

To paraphrase one of my heroes, “There they go again.”

The Slow and Unnoticed Death of A Once Great State

Colorado should have sealed up her borders before all the Californians moved in. Having driven through the state I know how beautiful it is. As a rocky mountain state Colorado had a long history of independence and self-reliance. Times they are a changing though.

Some members of the Colorado legislature apparently believe Colorado’s women are to unstable to carry guns for self defense.

Democratic Colorado state Rep Joe Salazar, while arguing in favor of disarming all college students actually said the following on the Colorado House floor. Women fearing rape may suddenly and haphazardly ”pop a round at somebody.”

Unable or unwilling to contain his stupidity he postulated, “It’s why we have call boxes; it’s why we have safe zones; it’s why we have the whistles — because you just don’t know who you’re gonna be shooting at. And you don’t know if you feel like you’re gonna be raped, or if you feel like someone’s been following you around or if you feel like you’re in trouble when you may actually not be, that you pop out that gun and you pop … pop a round at somebody,”

Let me see if I understand. No rapist will commit rape in a designated safe zone? A rapist/murderer/robber is going to allow his victim to use a police call box? Would that happen before or after the crime took place? Apparently the idiot Salazar would have women whistle while being raped? I know I am a simple guy but could someone explain this too me?

Not to be outdone the Democrat Colorado gun grabbers have moved to adopt drastic new measures in direct opposition to their constituents. Vice President Joe Biden has been pressuring Colorado lawmakers on a package of gun limits that would then serve as model legislation to push in other states.

The bills are:

HB 1224, which would bans all magazines that hold more than 15 rounds.

English translation, no law-abiding citizen shall have more bullets in his gun than the criminal he is facing.

HB 1226 would prohibit those with concealed carry permits, including off duty police
officers and former military personnel, from bringing their weapons on college campuses.

English translation, the state must provide a mass murder with a safe working environment.

HB 1228 would force residents to pay for exercising a constitutional right by making
them pay for a background check to prove they are not criminals. There is no limit on the amount the Colorado Bureau of Investigation could charge for the background check.

English translation, with a little luck we will make it so expensive that no one will be able to own a gun.

HB 1229 bans the private sale and transfer of firearms and institutes universal
background checks and/gun registration for all Colorado gun owners.

English translation, before we can take your guns away we must know where they are.

Apparently the creation of target rich environment’s at Colorado’s higher education institutions and the suggesting that women whistle while being raped simply isn’t enough insanity for the states democrats.

They are now pushing for the state to sponsor marijuana tourism. You have to know where this is headed. Colorado will become the drug hub of the west. One wonders just how long will the west coast gangs and Mexican drug cartels tolerate this incursion into their profits?

Not to mention all the collateral damage legalizing pot will bring. One obvious problem comes to mind right away. Why buy pot when you can steal it? How many people will be robbed after leaving pot shops? How many home growers will have their personal stashes stolen? How many home growers will sell pot just to make a little extra money? How many kids/teenagers will sneak their parent’s pot? I won’t even mention the associated increase in healthcare costs. Marijuana is no safer than cigarettes for your lungs.

My grandfather had a saying, “None are so blind as those who will not see.” I suspect it wont be long before Colorado follows California’s example and finds itself hip deep with numerous and easily avoidable crisis’s.

Same Agenda Same Results

I think little Barry learned his history well. It may be a cliché for many people to say that those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it. It is another cliché to say that the road to Hell is paved with good intentions. I think the reason these time worn “cliches” still resonate is because they are true. As for what Kitty Werthmann witnessed then, and is witnessing to now, does anyone else see the pattern? If so, what are you willing to do about it?

Kitty Werthmann , December 22, 2012

“What I am about to tell you is something you’ve probably never heard or read in history books,” she likes to tell audiences.

“I am a witness to history. I cannot tell you that Hitler took Austria by tanks and guns; it would distort history. If you remember the plot of the Sound of Music, the Von Trapp family escaped over the Alps rather than submit to the Nazis. Kitty wasn’t so lucky. Her family chose to stay in her native Austria. She was 10 years old, but bright and aware. And she was watching.”

“We elected him by a landslide – 98 percent of the vote,” she recalls.

She wasn’t old enough to vote in 1938 – approaching her 11th birthday. But she remembers.

“Everyone thinks that Hitler just rolled in with his tanks and took Austria by force.”

No so. Hitler is welcomed to Austria

“In 1938, Austria was in deep Depression. Nearly one-third of our workforce was unemployed. We had 25 percent inflation and 25 percent bank loan interest rates.

Farmers and business people were declaring bankruptcy daily. Young people were go- ing from house to house begging for food. Not that they didn’t want to work; there simply weren’t any jobs.

“My mother was a Christian woman and believed in helping people in need. Every day we cooked a big kettle of soup and baked bread to feed those poor, hungry people – about 30 daily.’

“We looked to our neighbor on the north, Germany, where Hitler had been in power since 1933.” she recalls. “We had been told that they didn’t have unemployment or crime, and they had a high standard of living.

Austrian girls welcome Hitler

“Nothing was ever said about persecution of any group – Jewish or otherwise. We were led to believe that everyone in Germany was happy. We wanted the same way of life in Austria. We were promised that a vote for Hitler would mean the end of unemployment and help for the family. Hitler also said that businesses would be assisted, and farmers would get their farms back.

“Ninety-eight percent of the population voted to annex Austria to Germany and have Hitler for our ruler.

“We were overjoyed,” remembers Kitty, “and for three days we danced in the streets and had candlelight parades. The new government opened up big field kitchens and
everyone was fed.

Austrians saluting

“After the election, German officials were appointed, and like a miracle, we suddenly had law and order. Three or four weeks later, everyone was employed. The government made sure that a lot of work was created through the Public Work Service.

“Hitler decided we should have equal rights for women. Before this, it was a custom that married Austrian women did not work outside the home. An able-bodied husband would be looked down on if he couldn’t support his family. Many women in the teaching profession were elated that they could retain the jobs they previously had been required to give up for marriage.

“Then we lost religious education for kids

Poster promoting “Hitler Youth”

“Our education was nationalized. I attended a very good public school.. The population was predominantly Catholic, so we had religion in our schools. The day we elected Hitler (March 13, 1938), I walked into my schoolroom to find the crucifix replaced by Hitler’s picture hanging next to a Nazi flag. Our teacher, a very devout woman, stood up and told the class we wouldn’t pray or have religion anymore. Instead, we sang ‘Deutschland, Deutschland, Uber Alles,’ and had physical education.

“Sunday became National Youth Day with compulsory attendance. Parents were not pleased about the sudden change in curriculum. They were told that if they did not send us, they would receive a stiff letter of warning the first time. The second time they would be fined the equivalent of $300, and the third time they would be subject to jail.”
And then things got worse.

“The first two hours consisted of political indoctrination. The rest of the day we had sports. As time went along, we loved it. Oh, we had so much fun and got our sports equipment free.

“We would go home and gleefully tell our parents about the wonderful time we had.

“My mother was very unhappy,” remembers Kitty. “When the next term started, she took me out of public school and put me in a convent. I told her she couldn’t do that and she told me that someday when I grew up, I would be grateful. There was a very good curriculum, but hardly any fun – no sports, and no political indoctrination.

“I hated it at first but felt I could tolerate it. Every once in a while, on holidays, I went home. I would go back to my old friends and ask what was going on and what they were doing.

A pro-Hitler rally

“Their loose lifestyle was very alarming to me. They lived without religion. By that time, unwed mothers were glorified for having a baby for Hitler.

“It seemed strange to me that our society changed so suddenly. As time went along, I realized what a great deed my mother did so that I wasn’t exposed to that kind of humanistic philosophy.

“In 1939, the war started and a food bank was established. All food was rationed and could only be purchased using food stamps. At the same time, a full-employment law was passed which meant if you didn’t work, you didn’t get a ration card, and if you didn’t have a card, you starved to death.

“Women who stayed home to raise their families didn’t have any marketable skills and often had to take jobs more suited for men.

“Soon after this, the draft was implemented.

Young Austrians

“It was compulsory for young people, male and female, to give one year to the labor corps,” remembers Kitty. “During the day, the girls worked on the farms, and at night they returned to their barracks for military training just like the boys.

“They were trained to be anti-aircraft gunners and participated in the signal corps. After the labor corps, they were not discharged but were used in the front lines.
“When I go back to Austria to visit my family and friends, most of these women are emotional cripples because they just were not equipped to handle the horrors of combat.
“Three months before I turned 18, I was severely injured in an air raid attack. I nearly had a leg amputated, so I was spared having to go into the labor corps and into military service.

“When the mothers had to go out into the work force, the government immediately established child care centers. You could take your children ages four weeks old to school age and leave them there around-the-clock, seven days a week, under the total care of the government.

“The state raised a whole generation of children. There were no motherly women to take care of the children, just people highly trained in child psychology. By this time, no one talked about equal rights. We knew we had been had.

“Before Hitler, we had very good medical care. Many American doctors trained at the University of Vienna.

“After Hitler, health care was socialized, free for everyone. Doctors were salaried by the government. The problem was, since it was free, the people were going to the doctors for everything.

“When the good doctor arrived at his office at 8 a.m., 40 people were already waiting and, at the same time, the hospitals were full.

“If you needed elective surgery, you had to wait a year or two for your turn. There was no money for research as it was poured into socialized medicine. Research at the medical schools literally stopped, so the best doctors left Austria and emigrated to other countries.

“As for healthcare, our tax rates went up to 80 percent of our income. Newlyweds immediately received a $1,000 loan from the government to establish a household. We had big programs for families.

“All day care and education were free. High schools were taken over by the government and college tuition was subsidized. Everyone was entitled to free handouts, such as food stamps, clothing, and housing.

“We had another agency designed to monitor business. My brother-in-law owned a restaurant that had square tables. Government officials told him he had to replace them with round tables because people might bump themselves on the corners. Then they said he had to have additional bathroom facilities. It was just a small dairy business with a snack bar. He couldn’t meet all the demands. Soon, he went out of business. If the government owned the large businesses and not many small ones existed, it could be in control.

“We had consumer protection, too

“We were told how to shop and what to buy. Free enterprise was essentially abolished. We had a planning agency specially designed for farmers. The agents would go to the farms, count the live-stock, and then tell the farmers what to produce, and how to produce it.

“In 1944, I was a student teacher in a small village in the Alps. The villagers were surrounded by mountain passes which in the winter were closed off with snow, causing people to be isolated. So people intermarried and offspring were sometimes retarded. When I arrived, I was told there were 15 mentally retarded adults, but they were all useful and did good manual work.

“I knew one, named Vincent, very well. He was a janitor of the school. One day I looked out the window and saw Vincent and others getting into a van. I asked my superior where they were going. She said to an institution where the State Health Department would teach them a trade, and to read and write. The families were required to sign papers with a little clause that they could not visit for 6 months.

“They were told visits would interfere with the program and might cause homesickness.

“As time passed, letters started to dribble back saying these people died a natural, merciful death. The villagers were not fooled. We suspected what was happening. Those people left in excellent physical health and all died within 6 months. We called this euthanasia.

“Next came gun registration. People were getting injured by guns. Hitler said that the real way to catch criminals (we still had a few) was by matching serial numbers on guns. Most citizens were law abiding and dutifully marched to the police station to register their firearms. Not long afterwards, the police said that it was best for everyone to turn in their guns. The authorities already knew who had them, so it was futile not to comply voluntarily.

“No more freedom of speech. Anyone who said something against the government was taken away. We knew many people who were arrested, not only Jews, but also priests and ministers who spoke up.

“Totalitarianism didn’t come quickly, it took 5 years from 1938 until 1943, to realize full dictatorship in Austria. Had it happened overnight, my countrymen would have fought to the last breath. Instead, we had creeping gradualism. Now, our only weapons were broom handles. The whole idea sounds almost unbelievable that the state, little by little eroded our freedom.”

“This is my eye-witness account.”

“It’s true. Those of us who sailed past the Statue of Liberty came to a country of unbelievable freedom and opportunity.”

“America is truly is the greatest country in the world. Don’t let freedom slip away. After America, there is no place to go.”

Arming Teachers

The school shooting in Connecticut recently has produced a wide variety of possible “solutions” for the problem of school shootings. The loudest “solutions” seem to be offered by ideologically driven liberals whose only intent seems to be the disarming of law-abiding citizens. I have covered this aspect of the debate in a previous column, Here We Go Again.

One solution, offered by some is to allow teachers to be armed. It may come as a surprise to many but there are several countries, Israel for one, that allow teachers to be armed in the classroom. The typical liberal response to an idea that deserves serious consideration came from Carol Lear. “It’s a terrible idea,” said Carol Lear, a chief lawyer for the Utah Office of Education. “It’s a horrible, terrible, no-good, rotten idea.” Lear it seems would prefer students be assassinated in an orderly fashion rather than have a teacher trained to use a firearm protect them.

I agree it is not the perfect solution, but I have to wonder about someone who seems to think it is better to have students sitting around defenseless waiting to be shot or turning their backs to a loaded gun and hoping not to be killed. Despite Ms. Lears best intentions, these are not real options and anyone who thinks they are is, in my mind anyway clinically insane.

If it is decided to allow teachers to “carry” in school there should be some guidelines. For starters the teacher must at least have their concealed carry permit. Being former military and a licensed armed security officer I completely understand and would insist on substantial training requirements for any teacher wanting to “carry” in school. I have been in “shots fired” situations and only solid training prevented the situation from deteriorating more than it already had.

Secondly, the weapon must be easily concealed. There are many small, easily concealed handguns in a variety of caliber’s. Armed teachers do not need .44 Magnum revolvers. A 9mm, .380 or even .22 is an effective deterrent when seen from the business end. The goal of the teacher should be to protect their students until law enforcement arrives. A warning shot may be all that’s needed to send a shooter away from a classroom full of children. It is an old cliché but it is sadly true, when seconds count, the police are minutes away.

Third, the weapon should be carried on the teachers person at all times. This means no stashing it in a purse, briefcase, locker or staff lounge. While it may be possible for someone to run out to their car and retrieve a weapon I can think of two reasons not carrying is dangerous. First, by leaving the scene those you should be protecting are left to fend for themselves. Second, when you return to the scene you have no idea what has changed. Where is the bad guy etc. To be of any value the weapon must be readily available.

Fourth, the weapon should only be loaded with hollow point ammo. This helps to limit over penetration, ie going through walls. It would be of little consolation to stop a shooter but have someone injured or killed by a shot that missed its target and hit someone through a wall.

Finally, the weapon should be unadvertised. By that I mean no one knows you have it. Ask any teacher and you will find that there are no secrets in a school. I know this because I was a PTA president for three years. If the teachers who want to carry have to be on a list kept by the administration it wont be long before they are all revealed. Lets be honest, all school shooters are cowards. That means the first person they are going to shoot is the one they think will shoot back. Not knowing who or how many that may be could be all the deterrent needed. As long as you are trained I have no problem with you “carrying” and my not knowing.

As for Carol Lear, I wonder if she is just waiting for something to happen here in Utah. Then she can resign her state job and make millions suing the state of Utah for “failing to protect their students from armed assailants.” It would be the liberal, lawyerly thing to do.
