I am A Conservative

Being a “conservative” now days is, as my grandpa would say when confronted with a difficult problem, a tough row to hoe.

The media, being to lazy to actually do any real journalism, relies on stereotypes that they are largely responsible for both creating and reinforcing to define conservatives. We are called more names than I can list but some that come to mind are teabaggers, bible thumpers, rednecks, racists and conspiracy nuts.

This media stereotype has conservatives seeing tyranny behind every corner while “clinging to” our “guns and bibles.”  We are said to be uneducated, intolerant and unable to “move with the times”. We are, according to this model, rigid ideologues.

I find the rigid ideologue identity the most puzzling of all. Examining the record in even the most cursory of fashions will show that it is the liberal democrats that vote en masse for the party line. The republicans have never mastered the art of political lockstep and I am okay with that.

As is often the case, the truth about conservatives is much different than the perception. Having been a conservative for at least thirty-five years, I should know.

The first and most obvious quality of conservatives is that we see people. This confuses liberals and democrats because they can only see things like skin color, sexual orientation, victim status, a persons wealth or lack thereof and party or union affiliation. Were we see individuals they see groups. While I have never understood that philosophy it seems to win them a lot of elections.

A second major differentiating factor is that as a conservative, I have no desire to be your nanny. Liberals and democrats can’t seem to help themselves. They see most people as completely unable to manage their own affairs. Liberals, while denying it loudly, go about constantly seeking ways to control what you eat, drink, think as well as the kind of vehicles you drive, how much money you can make and what your children should know. They seek incessantly to expand their control over our lives, as if they alone know what is best for us.

As a conservative I want the best for everyone while understanding that equality of outcomes is not likely or frankly even desirable. Not everyone wants to be a doctor or politician. Not everyone wants a BMW or Ivy League education.

As a conservative I believe that everyone should be free to pursue their individual best at whatever they love with the barest minimum of government interference. It must be understood though that in the pursuing of our dreams some of us will fail. Not everyone is willing to put in the long, grueling hours that true success is often built with.

In a similar vein, we conservatives are completely opposed to the class envy belief system that permeates liberal thought and governing processes. I have never understood why tearing down someone who has worked long and hard to achieve much in life is supposed to make you feel better.

It’s clear that those who engage in class warfare “feel” better about themselves for expressing their righteous indignation but I have to ask, what have you really accomplished? How have you improved your life by running down someone else’s? It is a core conservative principle that you can gain no real happiness by “taking down” others.

As a conservative I consider every new proposal, law or regulation through the prism of freedom. How is freedom affected, altered or reduced by the change? What is the actual benefit to be expected by making the change? What is the likely result of the new proposal, law or regulation. What, if any, are the unintended consequences of the proposal? The very liberal idea of passing a bill to “find out what’s in it” is as insane to me as liberals find Americans wanting to secure our borders.

Having studied liberals for a very long time I can safely say they are governed by two sometimes-competing desires. First they desire to feel good about themselves which is why we conservatives can never “judge” them by the results of their actions. It is their intentions that count and they don’t understand why that is not good enough for conservatives.

Their other desire, easily observable over the last four years, is control. Only liberals understand what kind of healthcare you need. Only liberals believe that people who cannot afford a home should have one anyway (fanny mae anyone).  Only liberals believe that some businesses are “to big to fail.” Only liberals believe it is acceptable to capture and store every email, phone call, text message and social media post of all Americans without having to go through the annoying process of getting a warrant.

We conservatives are by nature a happy lot and the very idea of feeling compelled to participate in any of the above is abhorrent to us. For that very reason alone liberals may never understand us.

Build the Fence Then We’ll Talk

As a first generation American I can no longer sit quietly as the so called “Gang of 8” reassuringly shove their immigration monstrosity on this once great country.

Referring to themselves as a gang is entirely correct. These so called United States Senators gang like actions and attitudes in regards to the immigration fiasco would be both instantly recognized and understood by your local gangbangers.

Showing no regard for the law is a hallmark of gangsters and the “gang of 8” has shown that they are hell bent on ignoring current law. They refuse, for example, to secure the border first despite the fact some of them voted for the law requiring a border fence  (much of which remains un-built) be built. They promise that at some point they will get around to securing the border but that is not the “important” issue at the moment. Yes, they say, the dam is leaking but we will fix that later. Right now we need to get all the illegals in this country on public assistance and registered to vote. Meanwhile the tide continues to rise.

This position alone demonstrates beyond a reasonable doubt that these anti-American senators seek only a process to legalize as many illegal aliens as possible as quickly as possible. Yes I said it, anti-American. Lets be clear, if these so called senators were the least bit concerned about this country, securing the border would be their first priority. Interestingly, despite overwhelming public support for securing the border, these so-called senators refuse to consider that option until all the illegal aliens in this country are registered democrats.

No real American could bring himself to sell his political soul to a wave of illegal aliens (translation, lawbreakers) for such a purely political purpose. Make no mistake, on the Democratic side this is exactly what is transpiring. Being able to see no farther than their next election Democrats are comfortable in their belief that the newly minted “citizens” will continue to vote for them.

To ensure the newly minted “Americans” continue to vote correctly, these political hucksters will continue to give away cash and benefits to maintain their power. Those of you who are offended by that need to be quiet and get back to work. Democrats need your taxes to payoff their new voters.

A side benefit for the democrats is that, should the gang get their way, the Republican Party will disintegrate. That suits the likes of McCain and Graham just fine, they never really liked the God fearing, gun clinging Americans that get up and go to work everyday and just want the government to stay out of their way and out of their pockets. Rubio is little better, he talks one way then votes the other way.

The Republican Party suffers from the delusion that if we grant this amnesty the illegal aliens will suddenly come to love them and will change political horses and vote for them. There is no real evidence that even hints at such an outcome.

I have a question, can any of you so-called republican senators recall what happened after the 1986 immigration “reform”? I can as I am old enough to remember. We are repeating that disaster with this current bill by orders of magnitude.

In an effort the be liked and understood by the very people who will never want to like or understand them one begins to wonder if they suffer from Stockholm Syndrome. I think they do. The victims McCain, Graham and Rubio dutifully listen to the instructions of their political enemies, line themselves and their followers up in good order, and proceed to march happily off the immigration cliff.

How Sad

As I predicted some readers of “Sacrificed on the Altar of Political Correctness” have attempted a response. I say attempted because their comments have not consisted of any kind of reasoned argument, just name calling. I have therefore deleted them. If you wish to discuss facts or even have a reasoned argument to present then by all means lets talk. If your first, second and third responses are to show your proficiency with profanity or you simply wish to base your conclusions on race then I will of course delete your response. Such responses are clear demonstrations that you have no interest in a reasoned debate.

Sacrificed on The Altar of Political Correctness

Before I begin I would like the reader to understand that I have great sympathy for the Martin family. Theirs is a tragedy no matter which way it is presented. While I have not lost a child I have experienced the agony of a 1 am call from the hospital telling me my 18-month-old granddaughter was dying and they didn’t think they could save her. Sitting beside a hospital bed watching for someone you loves last breath to come changes you in ways that are not easily explained. Thankfully the team assembled was able to save her and we were spared the tragedy. While I cannot say I understand exactly what the Martin family has gone through I can say I have a respectable frame of reference.
That experience makes this column, in some respects, more difficult to write. Still, the truth has no agenda and despite what anyone “feels” they are ultimately responsible for their actions. The legacy of young Martin now will be nothing more than that of another political opportunity for the racial hucksters of the day. In their grief the Martin family has helped mightily and willingly to cement this legacy. To those who will call me a racist for pointing out the obvious, your name-calling is just another confirmation of the correctness of my argument.
Sadly it seems that in this country, every so often, there must be a sacrifice offered to the politically correct crowd of liberals, democrats and their public school graduate/ivy league college followers. A recent example has been the U.S. military given up to the gay pride crowd. Today however, another sacrifice is being prepared.
Within the next couple of weeks the show trial of the “White/Hispanic” George Zimmerman will get underway. Like the show trials of the old Soviet Union this will doubtless be complete with absurd amounts of political correctness, misguided racial hyperbole and overbearing concerns about “justice for Martin”.
Those of you who are old enough or educated enough to know what I am referring to should be able to see the coming sacrifice of George Zimmerman. If you pay attention you can see the familiar patterns have already emerged.
The mere fact that he was only arrested and charged after the racially charged outcry from political poverty pimps like Mr. Jackson and Mr. Sharpton should send the alarm bells of decent citizens and the judiciary ringing like crazy. Sadly it has done no such thing.
The following fact has largely been buried by the media in its promoting of such a “racial” event but, police at the time had eyewitness testimony that Martin had Zimmerman on the ground and was beating him. They determined at the time that Zimmerman’s actions were justifiable self-defense and chose not to present the incident for prosecution. That is why Zimmerman was not arrested at the time.
Two certainties can be gleaned from this. First you can rest assured this witness will be raked over the white hot, racially charged coals of indignation by the supporters of Martins family, the media and in all probability the prosecution until their testimony is either recanted or matches the prosecutions version of events. Second, your average public school/ivy league graduate will not remember, or perhaps even know, about this inconvenient fact.
Consider also that the outcry about Martin did not come right away. It took the racial hucksters Jackson and Sharpton several weeks to organize their mobs and get their “outrage” together. It is a truism that timing is everything.
Then who can forget the touching photo of a 12-year-old Martin the media foisted upon us relentlessly, even knowing then that the 17-year-old martin had grown considerably bigger and stronger. This was done by a media in hopes of a story that would confirm their running narrative, ie racism is alive and well in the good old USA. Have you also noticed that even after being called on this misrepresentation, certain areas of the media continue to perpetrate the hoax. In the minds of these media type hucksters the innocent skinny little 12-year-old Martin is the one killed by Zimmerman and the truth that Martin was a much bigger and stronger young man is irrelevant.
Then there was the whole “bloody nose” non-incident. The media made a huge deal out of a surveillance camera shot showing Zimmerman being taken out of a police car without “any blood” on him. This they claimed was shocking proof that Zimmerman was lying. What they knew at the time but chose not to tell you was that Zimmerman’s nose had been treated and thus any blood would have been cleaned up. This photo was used to further incite the Martin family and their supporters.
As a prime example of Democratic Party thinking, ie let no good tragedy go to waste, the media pounced yet again. In what can only be called an act of criminal proportions the 911 call by Zimmerman to police was drastically edited to portray him as a stalking racist. This had to be nothing more than another attempt to fan the flames of hatred. I suspect there were other intentions as well. Perhaps it was also an attempt to justify the outbursts coming from the Martin family and their supporters and/or a blatant effort to prejudice both the public and any jury that might eventually be seated. No other rational explanation fits the facts.
Perhaps the best witness to young Martins attitude and state of mind is Martin himself. His life seemed, again according to his social media posts, to revolve around drugs and violence. You can bet the farm that the in the politically correct version of the Martin story the prosecution and the Martin family will do everything in their power to make sure no on knows just what reprehensible stuff Martin posted on his social media accounts. If, as the family maintains, Martin wasn’t a gangster, then he sure tried hard to perpetuate the image.
The Kenyan little Barry said of Martin “if I had a son he would look like Trayvon.” This is probably one of the only truths to come out of El Presidente for Life Barry’s mouth. Any son of the Kenyan would doubtless be just like his father, a racially biased, ruthlessly ambitious, the ends justifies the means Chicago style gangster. Like the Kenyan little Barry, Martin wanted to be feared for his aggressiveness not respected for his character or ability. His twitter account proves that.
It is often said that the simplest explanation is the best. Despite all the racial hyperbole and political correctness swirling around this case the evidence seems pretty clear. Zimmerman spotted Martin. He made the 911 call and did as the dispatcher said, walked away. For reasons we may never know, Martin it seems decided to assert himself on Mr. Zimmerman. Perhaps that night, Zimmerman was taking the place of the kid Martin wanted to beat up from his twitter account.
On the ground and being pounded into the pavement Zimmerman did exactly what any of us would have done. He didn’t call the police, Martin wouldn’t have allowed that. He didn’t try to “understand” his attacker, I suspect Martin wouldn’t have cared if he had tried. He didn’t apologize for being something he wasn’t, a racist, and he did not apologize for being where he was, nor should he have. When push came to shove Zimmerman defended himself. You or I may have chosen different tools to do so but Zimmerman used what he had. Someone long ago should have taught Martin that some times poor choices lead to very bad outcomes.
There is a passage in the bible that tells us that those who live by the sword shall perish by the sword. There is more and more truth in those words every day. Looking back at an all to short, angry and much too tragic life, one wonders if Martin had even heard of the book.
