The Big Lie Warren Buffett Style

The Big Lie Warren Buffett Style

Truly, if I hear anyone whine one more time about poor Mr. Buffett paying a lower tax rate than his secretary I think my head will explode. This is completely misleading and Mr. Buffett knows it as do all the media flacks driving this story. It a lie of omission and here is why.

People like Mr. Buffett derive the majority of their income from capitol gains. For all you public school dropouts think of capitol gains as interest earned on money that he has placed at risk in the marketplace. He invests his money in the stocks of companies that he believes will either grow or produce the next “big” thing. For the privilege of using those dollars the company pays him a dividend.

To help get folks like you and me to invest our hard earned dollars, dollars that we can lose altogether, the tax code treats these capitol gains differently than ordinary income. The incentive is that these gains will be taxed at lower rates than your ordinary income (wages etc.).

Mr. Buffett and his media lackeys are fully aware of this yet choose to spin their knowledge in order to promote the false premise that ”the rich don’t pay their fair share.” In fact, according to the IRS the top 20% of taxpayers pay the majority of taxes collected. Nearly 50% of Americans not only pay no taxes but get money back in the form of refundable credits.

The Buffetts of the political world justify the raising of tax rates, which will not affect them in the least because of how they receive their income, by claiming the increase in revenue is needed to offset the debt/deficit. It’s not fair Mr. Buffett claims that in having so much success he has to pay so little. I have a solution. It is quick, easy and guaranteed to sooth his politically correct guilty conscience.

Mr. Buffett and all his billionaire friends can right this very minute write a check to the U.S. Department of the Treasury in any amount they chose. The program to accept this money has been in place for years and he knows it. Isn’t it interesting though that rather than “pay his fair share” he instead wants your taxes to be raised. So much for the idea that liberals care about the little guy.

Let No Tragedy Go To Waste

Let No Tragedy Go To Waste

Let me begin by saying that my heart and prayers go out to all those in Aurora Colorado affected by the horror they experienced because of the behavior of a clearly deranged individual. Given that there is likely no rational explanation for what happened, I pray that the Good Lord will ease their pain and suffering in ways that only he can.

Given the depth of this tragedy it is doubly sad to see how quickly politics was interjected.

There is a firmly established principle in liberal democratic politics, that is, never let a tragedy go to waste. Literally within hours of the tragedy in Aurora, liberals, led by the idiot Mayor Bloomberg, began calling for increased gun control. He didn’t even have the decency to wait for the dead to be taken from the scene. This is a perfect illustration of another liberal tenet. Everything is a political event.

Other liberals who are not quite as tone deaf as the idiot Bloomberg will shortly be following suit. We will doubtlessly be treated to weeks of breathless coverage about the glorious salvation offered by the “sensible” gun control measures that they will almost certainly be offering up.

The liberals and their media stenographers will tell us in a hundred different ways just how much safer we will be when honest, law abiding citizens are no longer allowed to own or carry guns. As Colonel Potter used to say, “Horsefeathers!”

I read only recently how a 71 year old concealed weapons permit holder foiled a robbery attempt. Two thugs barged into the internet café where he and around a dozen people were using the computers. When one of the punks began brandishing a handgun grandpa went into action. He shot one of the would be robbers and chased the other one from the property.

I know these two situations are not the same and I can already hear all the arguments I am going to get. These two morons didn’t have body armor, assault weapons or tear gas etc. True, true and true. I can’t help but wonder though what a couple of .40 or .45 rounds to the chest, even with his body armor, of this deranged gunman would have accomplished.

I have read accounts of police officers taking rounds to their body armor. They tell nearly identical stories. According to them it is like being hit in the chest with a baseball bat. Often it knocks the wind from them, sometimes even fracturing ribs. Perhaps, if this loser had been forced to focus his attention on breathing, more people could have gotten out safely. Better yet, what if someone had gotten lucky and put a round in an unprotected place?

But, but, I can hear you saying, what if our hero accidentally shoots the wrong person? To which I respond, it can happen I don’t dispute that.

I, on the other hand, would much rather take my chances with a trained concealed carry holder returning fire than turning my back to a shooter and hoping for the best. Look, I understand there are no guarantees that anything would have changed had someone been able to put a few rounds into his body armor. Sadly though, we know exactly what happened when no one could.

No Work Required

NO WORK REQUIRED

Obama to the Supreme Court: Don’t you dare overturn a law passed by the duly elected representatives of the people. Yesterday Obama did exactly that.
In a stunning move that you will never hear about because the media will refuse to tell you, the Obama administration has decided to remove the so called work requirement from the welfare reform act of 1996. This was done yesterday through the issuance by the administration of an executive order. This move effectively guts a program that has reduced the number of its recipients by fifty percent over the last four years.
The section of the law that the administration claims gives it the ability to grant this “waiver” is actually limited to those items in that specific section. The work requirement is not listed in this section. Therefore their argument collapses under its own weight. This is nothing more than deceit by Obama on a grand scale.
It is blindingly clear why this move was made. It is nothing more than an attempt to create a wider and broader dependency class in the hopes that these folks, now entirely dependent on the government for everything, will continue to vote for the people who “provide” for them.
Hypocrisy, without a doubt. Hubris on the part of Obama, of course. However,
one of the real tragedies of all this is that many of the “beneficiaries” of this action will never understand that they were driven into welfare by this administrations economic policies.
Keeping you poor and ignorant is the hope and change Obama was promising in 2008 and is hell bent on delivering. Sadly Obama seems to be succeeding all to well.

Some Thoughts on Immigration

Illegal Immigration – A Teachable Moment

Not to long ago there was a story in the local paper about three sisters who were facing the possibility of deportation. There was a great hue and outcry locally about how unfair this was. They were brought here by their parents some thirty years ago. It wasn’t their fault. They had jobs and children. They paid their taxes and were responsible people. This just wasn’t fair.
Some days later Barrack Hussien Obama declared that he would simply ignore Federal law and unilaterally choose not to enforce federal immigration law for an entire class of people. There was much relief, delight and indeed celebration throughout the illegal immigrant community and their supporters.
I on the other hand, was sick.
This story is a magnificent teachable moment. That is if you are willing to be objective. Most people today have swallowed in their entirety all the false premises embodied by this unfolding “tragedy”. To simplify things I will use these sisters to illustrate my points. Lets start at the beginning.
These sisters were indeed brought into the country by parents who became illegal in their status and made the choice not to become legal. That was clearly not the sisters fault and until they reached the age of majority I would certainly not hold them accountable for their parents actions.
However, buried deep in the story was this interesting little tidbit. These sisters, now adults, were made aware of their status at least once by the Immigration dept nearly a dozen years ago when their case was brought up. The fact that they choose not to go through the process to become legal reveals more about them than they or their supporters care to admit. Can anyone say entitlement mentality? The sisters most decidedly can and did.
Now, let’s address calmly a couple of the more “emotional” aspects of this incident to see where the application of reason leads us in this example. Let’s find out.
“But the children, but the children, its not their fault.” It’s not fair to the children of these sisters if we send their parents back to Mexico. Really? It has been well established that having children in this country does not confer upon you citizenship. There is an established, and yes its cumbersome, process for that. A nation that allows anyone to waltz in and claim citizenship at the drop of a hat is not a nation for long.
Answer me this, why does the fact that you have children exclude you from the consequences of the law?
Further, why would you use your children as an excuse to continue violating the law? Even worse in my mind, why would you use your children as an excuse to avoid responsibility for your choices?
What if we applied this twisted sort of logic to identity thieves? I can hear it now. “Well, my kids needed food and clothing so I stole someone’s identity. I just took all their money, their retirement funds and took out a few loans. Hey, we deserved that big screen TV and Hawaiian vacation. I was just taking care of my family. You can’t punish me for that.” The sad thing is this actually happens, although you will never hear about it.
“But they have jobs and pay taxes!” I see. I don’t like to be redundant but, really? Being illegal they are not allowed to have jobs in this country. I wonder whose social security numbers were hijacked to allow these sisters to “have jobs and pay taxes.” Can someone explain to me the legal principle that allows one to violate some laws without penalty because you follow other laws? That level of intellectual flexibility eludes me.
To those who say we would be punishing unfairly the children of these sisters I would offer the following. Yes, it would be hard on them. I don’t doubt that they would be sad to see their parents return to Mexico. They might even go with them. This however is not our fault. It is merely a natural consequence of the decisions these sisters have made. All of this stems from two factors, their choice to ignore the law after being made aware of it officially and their belief that they are entitled to remain here in violation of the law.
I cannot help but compare the situation to that of a friend of mine. Her and her husband have spent well over a year and at last count nearly $12,000 to get her husbands legal status. How is it that these sisters are more deserving of legal status than my friends husband? If the law remains un-enforced just what message is being sent? Hide out long enough and the law will look the other way?
It is time for someone to be the adult in this situation. Since the sisters and their parents chose to abdicate that role the state should step in. That there are laws and that these laws have consequences is a lesson that these sisters chose to ignore or gloss over.
Life has a way of teaching us important lessons in ways that stick with us. These sisters and their children, by undergoing this experience would be learning a valuable and yes uncomfortable lesson about consequences and the law. I believe though it is a lesson, long in coming, that needs to taught.
